Early in 1949, Mrs. Dickranouhi (Dicko) Kupelian approached the Parish Council of the St. James Armenian Apostolic Church suggesting that they should look into the possibility of starting a Men's Club of the Church.  Mr. Charles Avakian, a Parish Council Member, approached Mr. Frank Keljik and Mr. Joseph Ananian and decided to invite a number of married men to a meeting, where a decision was made to formulate such an organization.

The St. James Men's Club was organized during the year 1949 as a subsidiary organization of the St. James Armenian Apostolic Church and it operates under the jurisdiction and authority of the Parish Council.  A constitution was prepared and approved by the Parish Council, after which the first Executive Committee was elected.

The purpose of the Men's Club is to encourage the active participation of its members in spiritual and social activities of the Church, and to undertake responsibilities of various functions to support the St. James Armenian Apostolic Church in all its cultural, social and financial programs.

The following highlights are just a few activities that members of the St. James Men's Club have been directly involved in:  Formulating of a St. James Boy Scout Troop; Organizing very successful "Sports Nights" with appearances from notable athletes; Arranging many New Year's Eve Celebrations; Chairing Annual Bazaars and Picnics; Organizing and continuing a flourishing weekly Bingo operation; Assisting the Building Committee for the Construction of the St. James Cultural and Youth Center, and organizing a St. James Men’s Club Golf Tournament.

The list could go on, but the underlying message clarifies that our Men's Club Members are very active in their support of our Church activities.
