An excerpt taken from the book “Crossroads on the Charles” says that we Armenians are homogeneous people with a passionate identification with our own unique heritage and history.  This is particularly true of our Armenian women whose dedication, diligence and hard work have always been exemplary.

The Young Women’s Guild of the St. James Armenian Church was started on April 26, 1948.  The women responsible for spearheading this organization were Mrs. Zabelle Tahmizian, Mrs. Satenig Morlian, and Mrs. Dickranhoui Kupelian. The Guild started with 28 members and has grown immensely over the years so that we now have over 200 members.

When the Guild was formulated, the membership was available only to young married women.  In 1958 the Constitution was amended to allow any woman communicant to become a member.  The Guild sponsors many diverse projects including annual Bazaar and Communion breakfasts served on Easter Sunday to all Sunday school students.

At the end of the fiscal year, the Guild contributes a certain percentage of its net income to the Parish Council.  Gifts of money are presented to the Sahag Mesrob Armenian School and the St. James Armenian Church Sunday School.

The Women’s Guild has served the Church faithfully and devotedly for many years and, God willing, will continue to do so for many more years to come.
